Defence Scientist - Radar Electronic Warfare

Location: Ottawa, ON
Salary: $35,105 to $84,814 (DS-02 to DS-04). The classification and salary of Defence Scientists are based on the current state of professional development of the individual. The salary is currently augmented by a terminable allowance of $8,000 annually (pro-rated). We are recruiting at the levels of DS-02 to DS-04 with salary based on academic qualifications and years of relevant experience.

Education

Graduation or near completion of a Master’s or Doctoral degree from a recognized university with a specialization in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related area.

Experience

A broadly based background in electronics is required with experience in complex hardware and software system design and analysis.

Defence R&D Canada is currently recruiting Defence Scientists (DS) for our Radar Electronic Warfare (REW) section, at our research centre, DRDC Ottawa, located at 3701 Carling Avenue.

Challenge

Scientists in the REW section undertake research and development in passive intercept of radar signals, electronic intelligence, threat alert, electronic countermeasures and counter-terrorism technologies for the Canadian Forces.

The incumbent will:
Participate in a program of applied research and development aimed at improving the performance of electronic warfare systems and subsystems.
Conduct research in the field of passive sensing of radar emissions and countermeasures against radar systems, with emphasis on the design and evaluation of advanced equipment – high-speed, wide-bandwidth analog and digital subsystems in combination with microwave technologies.
Participate in international activities, such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and The Technical Cooperation Program (TTCP) (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States).
Provide consultative assistance to the Canadian Forces on current and future problems related to the operation and enhancement of electronic warfare systems and subsystems.
Define, implement and monitor supporting contracts with industries and universities, as part of the research effort.
Assist in the planning of the research activities.
Document results of research and development activities through internal reports and external publications.
Perform oral presentations on a routine basis.
Supervise technical personnel involved in the work.

Condition of employment:
Secret security clearance - this factor is not used at the preselection stage. Security clearance is the responsibility of the department.
