The Department of National Defence and Defence R&D Canada are presently recruiting Defence Scientists (DS) to work in the Tactical Vehicle Systems Section at Defence R&D Canada - Suffield (DRDC Suffield). This is a permanent full-time opportunity. A qualifying list will be established and may be used to staff similar temporary and/or permanent positions. The position is located within the following governmental organization(s): Department of National Defence.
SALARY: $44,845 to $96,906 per annum.
The classification and salary of Defence Scientists are based on the current state of professional development of the individual.

CHALLENGE: The succuessful individual will be part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team who conducts fundamental and applied research related to unmanned vehicles in unstructured environments including perception of the environment local to the vehicles, vehicle guidance and control, control of the manipulators attached to the vehicle, multi-agent control, adaptive behaviour, and collective intelligence. Provides advice to the Canadian Forces on technical and operational aspects of unmanned vehicles and robotic systems. Provides technical guidance and supervision to technologists working on related projects.
EDUCATION: Graduation with an acceptable B.Sc., M.Sc, or PhD degree from a recognized university in Engineering, Physics or Computer Science with a specialization in a discipline related to robotics or autonomous vehicles.

EXPERIENCE: A successful candidate will have experience in one or more of the following: • Machine vision related to, object recognition and scene understanding, robotic vehicle control and navigation, geometric world modeling and shape recognition, mechatronics, dynamic control of complex mechanisms, machine learning, planning or sensor fusion.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience working on fielded systems and the development of algorithms in the Linux/C/C++ environment for implementation in embedded control and realtime control systems.
• In publishing technical reports (e.g. has published or is in the process of publishing).
